Objective and Content of a Project Assignment

A project assignment is an independent (group) assignment. It serves to independently apply and deepen the knowledge, abilities, and skills acquired in Business Informatics (and possibly Computer Science) courses regarding information management, planning, development, and implementation of application systems, handling important software development tools, as well as preparing and managing projects in a practical context.

An essential characteristic of a project assignment is the comprehensive processing of a project, including conception, design, implementation, documentation, project management, interface definition and work organization, as well as communication both within the project group and with clients and future users of the project results.

Duration

The duration of the project assignment depends on the project subject; for example, a project may have a duration of three months. During this time, it is expected that the project assignment receives the highest priority within the personal degree plan, meaning the assigned task is pursued intensively and consistently.

Processing

The coordination of the project assignment is primarily conducted independently (either alone in a one-person project or as a team in a group project). For higher-level coordination, status reports must be periodically submitted to the supervising chair member and any external project partner and discussed with them.

Results

The main results of the project assignment are a kickoff presentation (only for projects located outside the chair), project documentation (e.g., including project plan, project justification, functional concept, IT concept, and user manual; scope depending on the assignment), and a final presentation, as well as functional software in the case of a software development project. The graded result is weighted with 6 credit points.
