Each semester, the Chair of Business Informatics and Business Administration supervises final theses at the bachelor’s and master’s level, as well as term papers as part of the master’s degree.

Bachelor’s seminar

Each semester, a schedule is announced via the LMS Moodle course. There you will find all important dates and instructions:

  • The dates for the seminar presentations will be announced in advance and are binding for all seminar participants.
  • The bachelor seminar presentation consists of a 10-minute presentation plus a 10-minute discussion.
  • Feedback on the bachelor seminar (presentation and the research proposal) will be provided promptly after the seminar. Please arrange an appointment with your supervisor.
  • The bachelor’s thesis follows the bachelor seminar.

Bachelor’s thesis

After the bachelor seminar, the official registration of the bachelor’s thesis follows:

  • Complete the form “Assignment of the bachelor’s thesis” (Download Center, student advising office) and submit it to the chair. Further instructions can be found in the schedule for the bachelor seminar.
  • The duration of the bachelor’s thesis is governed by the examination regulations of the degree program.
  • The formal and timely submission of the final thesis is governed by the requirements of the student advising office for Law and Economics.
  • Please note that a submission that does not comply with the formal requirements is treated as a late submission and will be graded 5.0.

The deadline for submitting topic preferences is as follows:

  • Summer semester: deadline around mid-February.
  • Winter semester: deadline around mid-September.
  • Please refer to the schedule in the Moodle course for the exact dates.
  • Topic allocation will be announced one to two weeks later via an MS Teams course.

Further information can be found in the Moodle course.

At any time, our chair offers supervision for master’s theses. The general process comprises the following steps.

1. Admission by the student advising office

Before you begin your master’s thesis, you must have your form “Assignment of the master’s thesis” signed at the student advising office. This confirms your admission to the final thesis.
2. Topic proposal and submission to the chair

After confirmation by the student advising office, please submit the following documents to the chair:
1. Signed form “Assignment of the master’s thesis” (see Download Center, student advising office)
2. Current transcript of records and a short CV
3. Topic proposal / concept paper (approx. 1 page) including the problem statement, research question, relevant literature, and a proposal for your supervisor.

You are welcome to use our topics from the master seminars as guidance, available in the LMS Moodle course.
3. Consultation, initiation process, and start of the master’s thesis

At the chair, your topic will be reviewed and discussed with your respective supervisor. After a 4–6-week familiarization period, the form “Assignment of the master’s thesis” will be completed for the official registration of your master’s thesis; your master’s thesis is then officially registered.

The master’s thesis can be started at the chair at any time. There are no fixed initiation or submission deadlines at our chair; you determine your own start date.

The duration of your master’s thesis is governed by the examination regulations of your degree program.
4. Research colloquium

As part of your master’s thesis, you must complete a research colloquium. Please arrange the date in good time with your supervisor.

As a rule, the colloquium takes place approximately 1 month before the submission deadline.
5. Submission of the master’s thesis

Formal and timely submission must be made in accordance with the requirements of the student advising office for Law and Economics. Please inform yourself in good time about the current requirements (e.g., scope, format, submission modalities).

Plan your timeframe carefully, in particular the date for the research colloquium and the submission. Also coordinate with your supervisor.
