You can find ideas for a master’s thesis topic in the topics provided each semester for the master’s seminar on presentations in this LMS Moodle course. You may also propose your own topic. To do so, please prepare a brief concept note (topic, motivation, relevance, research question, foundational literature) and arrange an appointment with an employee of the chair.

How do I apply for a master’s thesis at the Chair of Business Informatics?

If you would like to write your master’s thesis at the Chair of Business Informatics, please submit the following documents by email to the respective supervisor:

• Form signed by the student advising office
• Current transcript of records incl. CV in tabular form
• Topic proposal / concept paper (approx. one page outlining the problem and research question as well as relevant literature)

Can I complete both master’s seminars at the Chair of Business Informatics?

Yes; however, the topics of both term papers must be different (“follow-up term papers” are not permitted).

Where can I find topics for my bachelor’s thesis?

Please refer to the topics provided each semester by the chair in the LMS Moodle course. You may also propose your own topic. To do so, please arrange an appointment with Prof. Dr. Rothlauf or an employee and send a brief concept note in advance as a basis for discussion. However, a binding commitment to a topic cannot be given.

Is it possible to write a bachelor’s thesis in cooperation with a company?

In principle, yes. Please contact an employee of the chair with a brief concept note and a potential partner institution. If the topic matches the chair’s focus and supervision can be ensured, the topic may be approved. When indicating your topic preference in the chair’s internal topic allocation, please select “Individual topic”.

How do I register for a bachelor’s thesis at the Chair of Business Informatics?

Writing a bachelor’s thesis at the Chair of Business Informatics requires completion of the bachelor’s seminar. Please refer to the process plan in the LMS Moodle course for information on registration for the bachelor’s seminar.

Is there a registration deadline for the bachelor’s seminar?

Yes. Please note the announcements from the student advising office (exam registration period). If you have not registered for the bachelor’s seminar in Jogustine, late registration at the chair is also not possible.
